After the success of last year's inaugural Craft Brew & Sausage Fest, the Grand Island Liederkranz is pleased to announce the continuation of this unique event. The Second Annual Craft Brew & Sausage Fest will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Aug. 20, 2016 and will see the return of regional craft brewers and locally-butchered meats to be enjoyed in the unparalleled beauty and under the tree-top canopy of the Grand Island Liederkranz courtyard, located in the heart of Grand Island's newly-branded "Railside" downtown district. The inaugural brew fest was a resounding success. Nearly 400 people attended and sampled more than 50 craft beverage varieties from more than 24 craft brewers and more than 15 different sausage flavors. While such an overwhelming turnout was crucial to raising awareness of the need to support the historic preservation and revitalization of the historic Grand Island Liederkranz building and institution, the inaugural brew fest also laid the foundation for raising funds for actual building restoration and improvements. With all the donated services and volunteer efforts, it is hard to quantify overall amounts of contributions in dollar figures, but after expenses the brew fest ended up with more than $5,000. It is not common for an inaugural event like this to make any profit its first year, and while last year's funds are helping to fund the second brew fest, it is hoped that the first year's fund raising is an indication of a long-term building of a restoration fund to return the Liederkranz to it historic glory as a beacon in the heart of Grand Island. |
